Dear Friend,

Between now and September we're profiling the eleven amazing women from Northeastern PA who we're celebrating this year with our Seventh Annual Women in Conservation Awards. Today is our fourth inspiring profile.

Meet Kelly Finan,
Woman of the Environmental Arts

Kelly Finan is a scientific illustrator who dwells in the rolling hills just outside of Hop Bottom, Pennsylvania. In her 10+ year freelance career, her work has supported the missions of parks, museums, researchers, and nonprofits far and wide.

While she has illustrated everything from air to zebrafish, her most prominent works are large digital paintings of entire ecosystems and the many species of which they are composed. You are invited to view her illustration work at www.kellyfinan.com.

Her clients include The Children’s Discovery Museum, Clean Oceans International, Frost Museum of Science, Harvard University, The National Aquarium in Baltimore, The Nature Conservancy, Northeast Wilderness Trust, & Yosemite National Park.

In her personal life, she is passionate about clean air and water; she has devoted countless hours to shedding light on local fracked gas industry issues, to opposing gas and pipeline companies who abuse eminent domain for private profit, and to her role in Susquehanna Clean Air Network (SCAN).

She is also an active member of the Salt Springs Park Education Committee, a team leader in the Susquehanna County Christmas Bird Count, and a volunteer bird observer for the North American Breeding Bird Survey.

She tries to lead a life that is light on the land; this includes removing invasive species from her property, planting native plants to provide habitat for the insects that pollinate our food crops, and doing her part to reduce food waste. More than anything, she wants you to stop mowing your lawn.

Congratulations, Kelly!
